FOS|LTC Weekly News

Last Saturday’s Spring Market and croquet charity event brought a real buzz to the Club. It was great to see the car parks full (well over 100 cars), and parking stretched all the way up Holland Road. A brilliant turnout in the hall and croquet lawn, raising money for Save the Children. Both events great showcases of our community spirit.

If you have somehow missed the advertising around Tendring, Ceroc dance fitness classes kicked off on Monday with a burst of energy. They will be running every Monday, so dust off your dancing shoes and come join the fun.

On Wednesday evening, James and Lucille hosted an excellent wellness session. If you couldn’t make it, their contact details are available on our new website; it’s well worth a look.

It’s been another strong week on court.

• Last Sunday, Frinton men beat Gidea Park in the Junior Essex Cup.

• Mixed C opened their account with a great win against Spring Lane.

• In the Mixed A v B clash, the A team came out worthy winners.

The Mixed A and B teams meet again next week for the reverse fixture, as well as the Ladies C team playing at home, so plenty more to look forward to.

We will soon be receiving tiered seating for the areas by Court 9 and Court H. Once it arrives, we will put out a call for volunteers to help move it from the car park to the courts.

With Open Day approaching, we will also be looking for extra hands to help get the Club looking its best. More details to follow.

Graham has been busy once again. Thanks to him and Tony Sharman, the referees’ shed has now been fully revamped. It just needs a lick of paint to finish it off.

Over the next few days, the hard court gates will be locked. To access them, you will need to book a court to receive the combination code.

New tennis etiquette signs will also be going up at the entrance to each section. Please take a moment to read them.

A message has gone out to all tennis captains: if you are playing for Frinton in the C&D League and don’t have kit from last year, please let your captain know. We are looking to organise subsidised playing tops and warm‑up tops.

And that’s just the start. There is plenty more happening this week and next at the Club.

Croquet Season Opens with Charity Success

The croquet season at Frinton Lawn Tennis Club got off to a fantastic start last Saturday, 11th April, as 19 members took part in the annual one-ball croquet competition in aid of Save the Children.

The event, which marks the traditional beginning of the club’s croquet calendar, focused on bringing members together for a day of enjoyable competition while raising money for a good cause. This year saw a notable increase in participation, with several players entering their first-ever competition — a positive sign for the continued growth of the sport at the club.

A total of £175 was raised for charity, reflecting both the generosity and enthusiasm of those involved.

Play was competitive throughout the day, with 33 matches completed over six hours, culminating in a closely contested final between Richard Everett and Stephen Mills, with Stephen winning. The standard of play highlighted the depth of talent within the club.

Two players from the event will now go on to represent Frinton in the national finals, set to take place on 16th–17th May (venue to be confirmed).

The club is also celebrating individual success, with Fiona McCoig selected to represent Essex in the upcoming Inter-Counties Championship at Eastbourne in May 2026. Fiona brings a wealth of experience to the role, having notably captained Cambridge University to victory over Oxford at Hurlingham in 1988.   She expressed pride in representing both Essex and Frinton, and the club is equally proud to support her. Members have wished Fiona every success for the season ahead.

Overall, it was a highly successful and enjoyable day, setting a strong and positive tone for the croquet season to come.
