FOS|LTC Weekly News
It has been another fantastic week of tennis, with our Ladies C team earning a strong win over Wivenhoe and our Mixed A team also coming out on top against our own Mixed B. It’s shaping up to be an excellent start to the season across the board: our Ladies, Men’s and Mixed A teams all boast two wins from two, while the Ladies and Mixed C teams also remain unbeaten. With the Men’s C team in action on Monday, they will be aiming to join the growing list of teams with a perfect record.
There is an important reminder from the tennis committee this week. While we actively encourage a wide range of sports at the Club, we also need to ensure that all activities are safe, take place in the appropriate areas, and do not disrupt others. To avoid any confusion, football is not permitted on the tennis courts except during scheduled walking‑football sessions, Club‑sanctioned events, or when specifically approved by staff or a committee member. Football may be played on the grass by the swimming pool (with staff approval) or on the grass next to the tennis wall when it is not being used for overflow parking. As always, any football played on Club grounds is at members’ own risk.
Looking ahead, our first grass tournament of the year, Do or Dice, takes place on Saturday, 9 May. With only 16 places and a format where absolutely anyone can win, it’s the perfect way to launch the grass‑court season. Please get involved; it is open to everyone who is a tennis member.
Last Friday evening brought a lively quiz hosted by James Max, who delivered his trademark mix of fiendish questions and good humour. And on Sunday, pickleball showed that it is becoming much more popular, with 16 players queuing at 10 am for what turned out to be a hugely successful tournament. Though we are still waiting to hear who actually won.
If you have wandered past the courts recently, you will have spotted the new seating now in place beside Court E and Court 9. A huge thank‑you to Clacton Pier for the donation. The early feedback has been fantastic. And there’s more to come: we are hoping to add seating next to Court H as well. We can’t wait to see these areas buzzing on competition days. Dates for the competitions are available on the website, and upcoming events are set out below.
