FOS|LTC Weekly News

This week’s newsletter opens with a big thank you to everyone who helped make Open Day so welcoming and successful and a warm welcome to all our new members who will now be keeping up with Club news right here. You will notice a slight delay in the padel financing announcement, but rest assured this is only administrative and definitely will not derail the project.

We are heading into a brilliant spell of weather, perfectly timed for next week’s LTA Grade 1 junior tournament, and there’s no better place to enjoy it than at the Club. Alongside the Grade 1 action, our own teams will also be putting on some fantastic tennis. Home matches start at 6.30pm, so do come down, enjoy the atmosphere, and support the players. You can check the fixtures board or the listings in this newsletter to see who’s playing next.

Work on the gym extension continues to progress, the Poolside Kitchen is open, and the pool should be buzzing with activity as the sunshine returns.

A reminder to all tennis players that courts must be booked before use. There are no exceptions, and this is especially important during the busy week ahead. And finally, if you are entering the Tennis Club Championships, please read the rules carefully before registering, or re‑read them if you have already signed up, to avoid any disappointment.

You’ll find full details on all of the above in the sections below.

Sports and Services!

FOSLTC Summer Open Day

A big thank you to everyone who helped make our Open Day such a success, from those who volunteered their time, to those who helped spread the word, and to all of you who came down on the day to support the Club. We are also delighted to extend a very warm welcome to the new members who joined our community as part of the event. We look forward to seeing you on the courts, on the lawn or generally around the Club.

Padel Update

Last week we shared the fantastic news that our padel application has been approved. We are keen to move quickly and have already begun meeting with the padel installers and the tennis/pickleball court specialists. We will update you as soon as vendor selection and installation timelines are confirmed.

On financing, we had hoped to issue the invitation to participate in the project investment this week, but we are just awaiting final sign‑off on the documents. To address any rumours, the padel courts are not being operated or financed by a private company. Our intention is to open the financing to as many members as possible through a loan note offering, which is based on a model successfully used by Frinton Links and many other clubs.

We will send the formal invitation and expression‑of‑interest form to all members as soon as everything is approved.

Gym Works

The container, which was kindly donated by SPL, that has been sitting in our car park, is finally on the move! Grover & Sons have now cut the openings in both the container and the gym wall, and it has been relocated to its new position. It will provide much‑needed storage for the gym and free up valuable space in the studio.

We appreciate members’ patience while this work has been underway, and a full deep clean will follow once everything is completed.

Court Padlocks

As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, we will be introducing combination padlocks on our hard and bubble courts. This has been implemented to prevent unauthorised use of the courts and to ensure that all courts are booked before being used. The new system comes into effect from Monday, 1st June. When you book a court, the access code will be included in your booking confirmation and will also be available from the office.

FOSLTC Club Championships 2026

Apologies for the early inclusion of the junior section in the Club Championships information, which was sent out in error. We will be holding separate Junior Club Championships, with Finals Day scheduled for Saturday, 5th September, so please save the date. Full details and the sign‑up link will be shared closer to the event.

A reminder that registration for the Club Championships closes at midday on Wednesday, 27th May. No late entries will be accepted. All players must be tennis or AAA members of the Club before registration closes and remain so for the duration of the tournament. For doubles events, each pair must have a confirmed partner, and both players must register separately. Entries without a partner’s name or without two completed registrations will be invalidated.

Please use the link below, or go to the tournaments page of our website, to submit your registration.
