In a week where we sadly lost a huge supporter of the Club, our condolences and thoughts are with Robin Tomkins’ family. Thanks to Robin’s overwhelming kindness, we have such a fantastic Club that we should all feel honoured and privileged to be members of. We will find a fitting way to commemorate Robin and his extraordinary support for the Club.

After the long, somewhat rainless summer, we should probably be pleased that it’s finally raining. But with the Croquet Club Championships finals and the Colchester & District tennis finals taking place here tomorrow, as well as our own Tennis Club Championships finals the following Saturday, perhaps the rain could desist for just another week or so.

As the days begin to shorten, we are also bringing back our social programme, ensuring there’s plenty to enjoy off the courts, off the lawns, and outside the gym. From quizzes and coffee mornings to festive events and special evenings, there’s lots ahead for everyone at the Club.

FOSLTC Club Championships 2026

And that’s it... Our finalists have been decided!!

Thankyou to everyone who entered this year; there’s been some incredible matches across the past couple of months.

Colchester & District League

Tomorrow we host the individual finals for the Colchester and District League. Good luck to all FOSLTC who are playing. Hopefully the weather holds! There should be play from 10 am; please do feel free to pop down and watch.

Croquet League Matches

Tomorrow also sees the end of the Croquet club champs with their finals day. It all kicks off at 10 am with the singles finals, followed by the doubles later in the day. Good luck to all taking part!

Christmas is Coming….

We’re delighted to announce our Christmas calendar ready for the 2026 festive season!

It’s set to be a great month from our Christmas Market and Wreath Making to Parties, lunches, and, of course, Carols! We’ve also been able to keep our prices reasonable this year whilst also giving our members their 10% off!

Quiz Nights are back!

We’re delighted to confirm our Quiz nights are back, with the next being hosted on Friday 18th September.

James Max has kindly agreed to come back as our quiz master, and it’s set to be a good one!

As usual, £2.00 entry pp, maximum of teams of 6.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Join us on Friday 25th September, from 10 am–12pm, as we come together for a special Macmillan Coffee Morning. Enjoy a morning of delicious cakes, tea, coffee and good company, whilst helping to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Cake Donations are welcome! Please drop them off either on Thursday 24th or the morning of the 25th September. We’d love to see you there!

We open our doors once again to showcase our ballroom on Saturday 19th September, 11 am – 2 pm. Rebecca will be here to help talk you through your plans, plus we’ll have our recommended suppliers on hand to help discuss any details. Spanish Wine Evening

Our President is hosting  ‘A Celebration of Spain’ at 6.30 pm on Friday 6th November, a light-hearted commentary about the wine, food, travel and culture of Spain.

The quality of winemaking has significantly improved in recent years, and a variety of high-quality wines featuring familiar and lesser-known grapes will be served throughout the evening.

Our new resident chef will have the opportunity to showcase his talents with complimentary dishes from different regions, in consultation with Carmen Griffiths, a former resident of Madrid.

Tables of 10 will be available to book as a group, or individually at a cost of £79 Members (£85 non-members).
