FOS|LTC Weekly News
The rain, unfortunately, did not desist last weekend, leading to several of the C&D tennis finals being postponed. The Croquet players, however, proved themselves far hardier than us tennis folk by ensuring their finals went ahead regardless. It sounds as though there were some fantastic matches, and well done to everyone who played or braved the weather to spectate over the two days.
Once we have the results from our players involved in the postponed C&D finals, we will share them with you. In the meantime, our attention turns to our own Club Championships finals this weekend. The forecast is looking favourable, so please come down and enjoy what promises to be some fascinating match‑ups. Play begins at 10 am, and the schedule is available via the link below.
We hope our juniors have had a truly “smashing” summer. A big thank you to our coaches for running successful squash and tennis camps throughout the holidays.
Thanks also to Mark Grover for lending us his scaffold tower. With it, we (mainly Graham) managed to repair more than 30 holes identified in the bubble roof. Fingers crossed this means the bubble is once again rain‑proof.
As mentioned in the last newsletter, our social programme is now back in full swing. There will be plenty on offer, both on and off the courts, so please take a look at what’s coming up at FOSLTC and do get involved.

Frinton Croquet Club Finals Weekend
What a fantastic Finals weekend for Frinton Croquet Club, with two days of competitive croquet, dramatic finishes, challenging weather and plenty of support from an enthusiastic crowd!
The Golf Croquet Singles Final got things off to a thrilling start, with Sarah Muckle taking on Richard Everett. At 6–6, everything came down to the final hoop. After a few very nervous shots from both players, Richard’s yellow ball finally found its way through to take the match 7–6. A great battle from start to finish!
There was then time for a special celebration as the new lawn plaque was unveiled, officially naming the area “Wright’s Rock Lawn”.
The Association Singles between Gary Brice and Fiona McCoig were played in increasingly challenging rain. She completed the first peel but unfortunately couldn’t make the next hoop. Gary took the match 11–6. With the rain showing no sign of letting up, the doubles match was postponed until Sunday.
Sunday morning brought the Golf Croquet Doubles, with Bruce Freeman and Richard Everett facing Jill Wright and Steve Burridge. After nearly two hours, the match reached a nail-biting 6–6. With pressure mounting and mistakes creeping in, Jill Wright produced a superb angled hoop to break the deadlock and secure victory for Jill and Steve.
The weekend concluded with the Association Doubles, with Fiona McCoig and Gary Brice taking on Bruce and Sue Freeman. Fiona held her nerve and took the golden hoop, securing the match for herself and Gary.
Congratulations to all our finalists and a huge thank you to everyone who played, supported, refereed, watched and, despite the rain, helped make the weekend such a success.
Junior Squash Camp Success!
